Our Black Currant crop is ready for picking. These are from the 250 Black Currant plants we planted 3 years ago. The plants are more than half way to maturity so and it looks like the total harvest is right where we expected it to be.
We are still hand harvesting but because we planted three different cultivars with slightly different harvest times, our work should spread out fairly evenly over the next two to three weeks.
They have come a long way from April to July as you can see in the following pictures.
The last picture shows our picked Black Currants. These have been diverted from the freezer and will be used on cereal, in smoothies, on ice cream, in fruit salad, as snacks……..you get the idea
